2 years of D Health

D Health is two years old

The D Health Catalyst has now entered its second year - how are we doing?

When D Health formed in early 2013, digital health was overflowing with accelerator programmes which now appear to have been superseded by digital health competitions. The level of interest from the corporate world was only matched by the excitement in the start-up world (and perhaps by conference organisers!).

We believed then, as we do now, that digital health will simply become the way that healthcare is delivered but at the time, digital health was largely hype and hyperbole. As such, we wanted to develop a model that would help all the players in the digital healthcare space move forward by making things happen and by building trust between an eclectic mix of organisations.

·We wanted to create something to support the corporate need to access both technical and commercial innovation.

·We wanted to develop a vehicle which would genuinely help small companies grow through trade and investment.

·We also wanted to create a safe environment where statutory healthcare providers could interact with industry such that digital health could be mainstreamed.

·We needed to create trust.

The model needed to be sustainable - self-sustaining – something less transient than an accelerator or a grant funded initiative. Something based on real world dynamics.

And so we developed the Catalyst programme which started on January 1st 2014. So here we are 15 months later with a sustainable model with just under 50 members. From a distance, it might appear to be just an introductory service but there’s a little more to this than meets the eye. The Catalyst is about insight, activity and expertise – something which we are happy to illustrate with real world examples.

·We have helped a number of companies, both large and small, with market entry strategies.

·We have trodden the boards of trade shows looking for the hottest digital health products for our members – and then brokered these deals.

·We have helped to design sustainable, technology based business models for third sector organisations.

·We identified consumer psychology as being central to the future of digital health and then introduced expertise to the group.

·We predicted the growth dynamics of the market in early 2013, going against popular opinion at the time.

·And then there’s the interaction and activity between our members that’s been sparked through our members database or our virtual group or perhaps at our events.

·This is in addition to the introductions we have made when we have identified opportunities for collaboration and partnership.

2015 is busy already. Having hosted the successful “role of psychology in digital health” meeting, we are planning for a Catalyst partnering event in June. Ahead of this, our next insight report will examine when the digital health blockbusters will arrive with our final report of the year being a refresh of the January 2013 publication “A strategic review of digital health”.

Last month we cemented relationships with sector experts across Europe to create a Europe-wide network capable of helping the best innovations in digital health enter new territories.

This month we are helping to develop two marketing plans, a new product spec, a market entry strategy, performing due diligence for a potential acquisition and brokering in excess of 10 partnership/distribution deals.

You will see the contribution of the Catalyst to the market in 2015 as our members develop their interests in digital health, in part due to the Catalyst, its members and of course D Health.

The growth of digital health, from small beginnings to the future of healthcare, is a journey…so travel in good company!
